Description of the post-doctorate position: Neuroscience and Mathematics Cognition

The candidate will work in Mathematics Cognition at the Area of Neuroscience and Cognition of the Center for Advanced Research in Education (CIAE) of the Universidad de Chile; hence he/she is expected to conduct cognitive/neurocognitive research in topics relevant to Mathematics Education, and to collaborate actively with researchers of the Area.
CIAE is located in the city of Santiago, the capital of Chile.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Educational Sciences, or a related discipline, obtained not before 2013. Candidates currently in the process of graduation must be in possession of their degree by March 2018
  • Relevant scientific publications
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Experience with interdisciplinary cooperation is highly desirable
  • At least partial knowledge of Spanish is desirable

Research proposal:

The candidate must present a brief research proposal (up to 8 pages), along the topics mentioned above, which should be performed within the existing lines of research at the CIAE Neuroscience & Cognition Area. The proposal must describe the aim of the research, methodology, resources needed for its execution, and its contribution to Education.

  • A letter stating reasons for applying (up to 2 pages).
  • At least two recent reference letters, focusing on the candidate's academic work and research skills as well as experience in working collaboratively
  • Research Proposal
  • Certificate PhD

Information about the position:

  • The candidate will be expected to be fully dedicated to research in an active research-oriented environment, with no teaching duties
  • Expected duration
    • One year (starting in March 2018)
      Preference will be given to candidates available for a longer-term commitment (e.g. willing to apply for external funding to continue their work at CIAE).
  • Financial information
    • Monthly salary: 1,800,000 Chilean pesos (approx. 3,000 US dollars) As a reference to rent a furnished apartment near CIAE is about US$800 per month.
    • Flight ticket (round trip) will be covered if needed.
    • Financial support for research is available through internal small grant applications.

CIAE's Lab is equipped with:

  • Booths for conducting computer-based behavioral experiments.
  • Software for data collection: E-Prime 2.0, EventIDE, OpenSesame.
  • A Tobii T120 eye tracker.
  • An EGI Net Amps 300 electroencephalography system, with 64-electrode nets (adult size).
