Bio

Economista de la Universidad de Chile y PhD en Economía de la Universidad de California, Berkeley. Es Directora del Instituto de Estudios Avanzados en Educación y del CIAE y Profesora Titular de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad de Chile.
Su investigación se centra en economía de la educación, con foco en el impacto de los arreglos y las reformas institucionales en los resultados del sistema chileno de elección de escuelas, el mercado laboral de los docentes y la igualdad de género en educación. Su docencia se ha focalizado en teoría microeconómica, economía de la educación y economía y políticas públicas.
Ha sido Directora del Departamento de Ingeniería Industrial y del Centro de Economía Aplicada de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad de Chile, Vice Presidenta del Consejo de CONICYT y miembro de varias comisiones presidenciales.
El año 2015 la Universidad de Chile le otorgó la Condecoración al Mérito Amanda Labarca.


Alejandra Mizala holds an economics degree from the Universidad de Chile and a PhD in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. She is Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Education and CIAE, and Professor with the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Universidad de Chile.
Her research is on the Economics of Education, with a focus on the impact of institutional arrangements and reforms on the outcomes of the Chilean school choice system, teacher´s labor market, and gender equality in education.
Her past appointments include: Chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Director of the Center of Applied Economics at the Universidad de Chile, and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chilean National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research. She has also been member of a variety of presidential commissions.
In 2015 the University of Chile awarded her with the Amanda Labarca Prize.
