Bio

Profesora de Castellano de la Universidad de Chile y Doctora en Pedagogía de la Lengua Materna de la Universidad de Lovaina. Es investigadora del CIAE y profesora titular del Instituto de Estudios Avanzados de la Universidad de Chile. Además, enseña en la carrera de Pedagogía en Educación Básica y en el Magíster en Lingüística de la Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
Su investigación se centra en temas de literacidad escolar, con foco en la enseñanza y aprendizaje de la lectura, escritura y gramática, así como en el currículum y evaluación de estas competencias lingüísticas. Además, ha desarrollado estudios sobre la formación de profesores, especialmente, en el área de Lenguaje.
Ha desarrollado proyectos y contribuido en el diseño de políticas sobre formación inicial y evaluación docente con el Ministerio de Educación. Ha sido consultora del Consejo Nacional de Educación para la revisión de las Bases Curriculares en el área de Lenguaje, tanto para la educación básica, media, como de adultos.

Carmen Sotomayor has a Spanish teacher degree from the University of Chile and a PhD in pedagogy of matter tongue from de Catholic University of Louvain. She is a researcher in the CIAE and Professor in the Institute for Advanced Studies in Education. She gives also courses in the Primary Pedagogical Program and in the Master of Linguistic in the Faculty of Philosophie and Humanities of the University of Chile.
Her research is on the school literacy, with focus on teaching and learning in reading, writing and grammar and on the curriculum and assessment of these linguistic skills.
She has developed projects and she has contributed in the design of teacher training and teacher evaluation policies with the Ministry of Education. Additionally, she has worked as a consultant for the Education National Council in the revue of the curriculum standards in Language for primary, secondary and adults school level.
